JUMP RHYTHM: IN CONCERT!
Jump Rhythm’s full ensemble of dancer/singer/actors showcases recent works and pieces from their award-winning repertory in a variety of settings from traditional theaters and black box spaces to convention centers and music festivals.

JUMP RHYTHM QUARTET OR JUMP RHYTHM QUINTET
Featuring either four or five dancers, this smaller chamber ensemble is perfect for intimate theaters, informal performance areas, and other non-traditional performance spaces. While providing the same rhythmic and emotional punch as the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project: In Concert! experience, this is the perfect option for a smaller season budget.

JUMP RHYTHM JAZZ PROJECT AS YOUR GUEST
Offering solos, duets or group works from our repertory, Jump Rhythm is a complimentary addition to your variety show or shared concert program at theaters, universities, music and dance festivals, elementary and secondary schools, libraries, businesses, conferences and conventions.

JUMP RHYTHM JAZZ PROJECT: THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE!
A Jump Rhythm lecture demonstration combines rhythmic demonstrations and company repertory into a 40 minute – 1 hour exploration of rhythm, music, movement, humor and interactive conversation best suited for all ages. Jump Rhythm lecture demonstrations work well as family performances or when specifically tailored to students ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. The performances can be presented in a variety of settings including theaters, schools, libraries, hospitals, professional conferences and more.

  • JUMP RHYTHM JAZZ PROJECT IN CONCERT
JRJP’s full ensemble of dancer-singer-actors showcases recent works and pieces from their award-winning repertory in a variety of settings from traditional theaters and black box spaces to convention centers and music festivals.

THE JUMP RHYTHM® QUARTET; THE JUMP RHYTHM® QUINTET
Featuring either four or five dancers, this chamber ensemble is perfect for intimate theaters, informal performance areas, and other non-traditional performance spaces. While providing the same rhythmic and dramatic punch as the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project In Concert, this is the perfect option for a smaller season budget.

JUMP RHYTHM JAZZ PROJECT: GUEST ARTIST APPEARANCE
Offering solos, duets or group works from our repertory, our guest artist appearances can supply a complementary shot of energy to your variety shows or shared concert programs, whether at theaters, universities, dance festivals, music festivals, elementary and secondary schools, libraries, businesses, conferences or convention halls.

“JUMP TO IT!”: THE EDUCATION SHOW
A “Jump To It!” is the company’s acclaimed audience-interactive lecture-demonstration, a show that is as exuberantly entertaining as it is lastingly educational.  The subject is RHYTHM, the universal language of communication that tells our hearts how to beat, our feet how to run, our voices how to sing, and our bodies how to dance.  These lecture-demonstrations work well as family performances or for student groups ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. The performances can be presented in a variety of settings including theaters, schools, libraries, hospitals, and professional conferences.

  • Jump Rhythm offers several options to suit you – choreographic residencies, teaching residencies, and residencies concluding with Jump Rhythm Jazz Project In Concert.

Our residencies can be conducted by the entire company, a team of two-to-four members, or by the artistic director, the associate artistic director, or a senior company member. We can work with your students at your dance studio, secondary school, university, or community center for anywhere from two days to six months or longer.

During that time, company members can teach classes in Jump Rhythm® Technique; Jump Rhythm® Tap; Choreographing Music: Rhythmic Approaches to Improvisation and Composition; Standing Down Straight®: The Injury-Preventive Path to Performance and Everyday Behavior; American Rhythm Dancing and The African American Performance Aesthetic; and/or Swing Dancing and the Joys of Hand-Held Partner Dancing.

In Choreographic Residencies, two company members can set an existing piece of choreography from company repertory, or the artistic director can create new commissions, featuring JRJP’s rhythmically and dramatically innovative style of jazz-rhythm-based theatre dance. And, to round out your experience, we can close the residency with a full-company performance of Jump Rhythm Jazz Project in Concert.

  • JUMP RHYTHM® TECHNIQUE
Jump Rhythm® focuses on the concept of full-bodied rhythm-making, whose goal is to fuse the dancing body and scat-singing voice into a rhythm-accurate percussion instrument. The technique bases all work on two overarching principles: rhythmic clarity comes from making clear shifts of body-weight; and shifts of body-weight are most clearly achieved using the body-grounding concept of Standing Down Straight®. Now taught abroad as well as in the United States, Jump Rhythm’s vocal-rhythmic approach to movement learning can be considered essential preparation for performing any genre of dance or stage movement done to beat-driven music with both musical precision and emotional clarity. Because Standing Down Straight® also promotes moving with efficiency (using the least amount of energy to achieve one’s goal), with grace, and without causing injury to the body, no matter how high-exertion the activity, the technique can also be used by workers like musicians, athletes, and public speakers to improve their own performances.

    JUMP RHYTHM® TAP
Jump Rhythm® Tap applies the principles of Jump Rhythm® Technique to tap dancing. It combines the drumbeaters of the feet with the primary drumbeaters of the hands, head, and voice to create sparkling swing or percussive funk rhythms through the whole body. Jump Rhythm® Tap classes are a great addition to JRJP residencies, whether taught as individual master classes or as a part of tap or percussive dance festivals.

    JRJP REPERTORY
Company members re-create works from JRJP’s touring repertory. Our pieces of theatre dance fuse dynamically rich, full-bodied rhythm-making with powerfully expressed dramatic intention.

CHOREOGRAPHING MUSIC: RHYTHMIC APPROACHES TO IMPROVISATION AND COMPOSITION
Using full-bodied rhythm-making as a springboard to movement exploration, Choreographing Music focuses on embodying as well as analyzing the elements of music: pulse; rhythm; note values (quarter note, eighth notes, etc.); accents and their dynamic markings (staccato; sforzando; “staccando”); accenting on the beat or off the beat; and the two major “feels” of metric music, swinging, triple-rhythm-based music and percussive, duple-rhythm-based music. With these tools, students launch into creating their own phrases of vocally generated motion, both a cappella and to selections from musical genres featuring both simple and complex rhythm-driven scores.

STANDING DOWN STRAIGHT®: THE INJURY-PREVENTIVE PATH TO PERFORMANCE AND EVERYDAY BEHAVIOR
Guided by Jump Rhythm’s unique approach to aligning the body, Standing Down Straight®, as well as by the postural and motional principles pioneered by Mabel Todd in The Thinking Body, Standing Down Straight® explores how to move efficiently, injury-free, and with power when dancing, engaging in other peak-performance activities like athletics, and doing the tasks of everyday life.  This course is also available to individuals in one-on-one movement-consultation sessions.

AMERICAN RHYTHM DANCING AND THE AFRICAN AMERICAN PERFORMANCE AESTHETIC
Surveying the tradition of African-American-based, vernacular-bodied, rhythm-driven-dancing in America and beyond, this class views, discusses, and does dance improvisations in response to the rhythmically propulsive dancing and singing found in those feature-length films, dance documentaries, and music videos that celebrate performances based in the rhythms of jazz, the blues, Latin, funk, hip hop, and their musical variations.

THE JOYS OF PARTNERED SWING DANCING
Jump Rhythm focuses its approach to classic Lindy dancing on the way the human hand, when steered by Standing Down Straight’s principles of scapular abduction and sidedness, becomes the perfect conduit for sharing one’s weight rhythmically with another person.  This class, like all the approaches to dance technique taught by our company members, emphasizes the importance of using rhythmic dancing to connect to the earth, to oneself, and to other people.
