Working with JUMP RHYTHM® Jazz Project has been an exciting and rewarding experience. This 25-year-old dance company generates such a unique and stimulating performance. When I first started working for JUMP RHYTHM® I was intrigued by the style and technique. I found this injury preventative and accessible approach peaked my interest. As I started to fully comprehend the technique and got to experience the company perform first hand I truly understood the magic behind the practice. Artistic Director and Founder Billy Siegenfeld has such an inventive and inimitable view on dance and how to create beautiful movements for the every man. His idea of Standing Down Straight® is ingenious and adapting it to dance and movement is revolutionary. In his article discussing the practice Billy says:
âIn using standing down straight as the foundation of all class work, JUMP RHYTHM® Technique offers a fresh alternative to conventional systems of dance study. Instead of developing exercises constructed upon a partly or fully uplifted posture, it bases its pedagogy on three behaviors that have been in existence for as long as people have moved from their deepest impulses. These are: grounding the body so that it can move with power and efficiency. Singing as well as dancing the rhythms of movement, and using rhythm-driven group and partner dancing to build community.  By focusing on movement efficiency and rhythm-driven performance, JUMP RHYTHM® Technique guides students toward the goal of full-bodied rhythm-making. This process transforms the dancing body, accompanied by the scat-singing voice, into a dynamically expressive, rhythm-accurate percussion instrument.â
I was able to finally see the company in action at their 2014 Summer Intensive performance and I was amazed! The performers were so engaging and the movements exciting! I was on the edge of my seat with a huge smile plastered on my face! I could truly feel the energy that engulfed the space. The company members created an enchanting and exhilarating vibe that pulsated throughout the ballroom.  This company continues to astonish and surprise audiences with the infectious energy, raw emotion, and unbridled joy on stage. JUMP RHYTHM® Jazz Project is kicking off their 25th Anniversary Season at the end of October with performances at  the local theatre Stage 773. This is bound to be an elating experience so donât miss your chance to get a taste of this spectacular ensemble!

Kate Holmquist recently moved to Chicago and started working with JUMP RHYTHM® in March 2014 as their Office Manager. She has always had a love and interest for the arts, specifically drawing and painting, but this company stood out to her. She wanted to get involved with a non-profit who was truly pumping out creative and unique work. She has been assisting on the administrative side as well as with fundraising and creating marketing materials to promote the company and their upcoming events. Being involved with JUMP RHYTHM® for her has been a very rewarding and exciting experience. Being new to the non-profit realm she is constantly learning and finding new and rousing ways to be an asset to this company. She is looking forward to seeing the company perform in full force at their 25th Anniversary performance this October at Stage 773. She has put a lot of time and energy into making sure everything surrounding the performance runs smoothly! She is eager to see what this new season has in store for the company!
